Construction notice: Wyndham and Fountain streets sewer construction

Guelph Police Services building The City is working with Goetz Construction and Jasper Construction to undertake infrastructure work to service the renovated Guelph Police Services building. Construction begins July 10 Construction is expected to begin on or about July 10 and take approximately one week. Road closure and lane reduction There will be a lane reduction on Wyndham St South between Farquhar and Fountain streets throughout the work. Traffic on Wyndham St South will be maintained in both directions though delays should be expected. Fountain St East will be closed between Freshfield and Wyndham Streets with no through traffic permitted. The Fountain Street parking lot will remain accessible only via Wyndham Street South. About the project Guelph Police Service headquarters is currently undergoing a three-year expansion and renovation to meet the needs of our community’s police services today and 25 years from now. This work will bring the facility up to today’s health and safety standards, provide the appropriate space—long-term—for police operations and personnel, and replace the building’s aging equipment. Garage construction begins early February The City expects the contractor to begin pouring concrete for the garage floors at the Guelph Police Service headquarters on or around February 1, and expects the work to be complete by the end of June. This work will bring the facility up to today’s health and safety standards, provide the appropriate space—long-term—for police operations and personnel, and replace the building’s aging equipment. Rock removal begins August 2 Excavation of the existing parking lot is underway for  the construction of the new west wing addition. Starting August 2 construction crews will be using jackhammers to remove bedrock in the west side parking lot, causing noise and vibrations. City publishes quarterly updates on large construction projects

policuelph, Ont., July 14, 2016 – Quarterly updates that include budget and progress status are now publicly available for three of the City’s major capital projects. “Consistent public reporting is one aspect of our commitment to evolve our project management practices on large-scale construction projects,” said Scott Stewart, Deputy Chief Administrative Officer of Infrastructure, Development and Enterprise Services. “We’re accountable to manage these projects well and that involves routinely communicating the status of the schedules and budgets.” The updates are available for the City’s capital projects that are considered complex and high risk, based on a number of factors that include price. Wyndham Street South to Freshfield Street UPDATE (as of September 14): Farquhar Street has reopened to westbound traffic. About the project As part of the Guelph Police Service (GPS) headquarters renovation, a crane will be operating to transport materials for construction work on Farquhar Street. Every effort will be made to maintain access to driveways within the work area during working hours (Monday to Friday, 7 a.m.-7 p.m.) Temporary delays due to equipment movement are expected. The Guelph Farmers’ Market is open on the usual schedule  with access via Freshfield Street. The Guelph Armoury is also accessible via Freshfield Street. City, Guelph Police break ground on headquarters renovation

Guelph, Ont., April 21, 2016 – Today, at a groundbreaking event, the City of Guelph and Guelph Police Service (GPS) announced the official start of construction on the police headquarters renovation. The $34.1 million renovation project, slated for completion in spring 2019, will equip Guelph with a police headquarters that meets the needs of the community’s police services today and into the future. The current police headquarters was built in 1960 when Guelph’s population was 38,000. City awards contract for Guelph police headquarters renovation

Guelph, Ont., February 2, 2016 – The City of Guelph has awarded the contract for general contracting services for the renovation of the Guelph Police Service headquarters, located at 15 Wyndham Street, to Jasper Construction Corp. of Concord, Ontario. Six tenders were submitted; Jasper Construction Corp.’s proposal was submitted in the amount of $25,890,000 exclusive of HST.
