Guelph takes up Mayor’s Poetry Challenge

Local poet to perform at April 28 Council meeting Guelph, ON, April 28, 2014 – Local poet Madhur Anand will present her poem “Sestina” during tonight’s meeting of Guelph City Council as part of the Mayor’s Poetry Challenge. The challenge is a collaboration between the League of Canadian Poets and the Saskatchewan Writers Guild, in cooperation with the City of Regina. The Mayor of Regina, Michael Fougere, challenged his fellow mayors across Canada to have a local poet read a poem at their Council meetings to draw attention to the contributions poets and writers make to the cultural life of communities. The challenge coincides with UNESCO’s World Poetry Day on March 21 and National Poetry Month in April.
