100 Years of In Flanders Fields Map Journal tells century-old story in new way

Guelph, ON, September 10, 2015 – History goes high-tech with the launch of 100 Years of In Flanders Fields Map Journal, a web-based, multi-media experience developed by the City of Guelph’s Information Technology Services in partnership with Guelph Museums. Launched today, the map journal uses interactive, content-rich maps to trace John McCrae’s life and the experiences that led to his writing of In Flanders Fields 100 years ago. “This is a very compelling, comprehensive resource for learning about John McCrae, from his early life in Guelph through the medical and military experiences that led to his writing of In Flanders Fields,” says Guelph Museums manager Tammy Adkin. “It is wonderful to see emerging technologies applied to advance understanding of history. Guelph celebrates In Flanders Fields through Mayor’s Poetry City Challenge

GUELPH, ON, April 27, 2015 –  The Honourable William Winegard will read “In Flanders Fields” at tonight’s meeting of Guelph City Council, marking the 100th anniversary of the poem and Guelph’s participation in the Canada-wide Mayor’s Poetry City Challenge. Guelph is one of about 70 communities across Canada participating in the Challenge, which is a national celebration of UNESCO’s World Poetry Day (March 21) and National Poetry Month in April. Begun in 2012, the Challenge is an annual initiative of the League of Canadian Poets through which municipal councils across Canada open their Council meetings with a reading from a local poet.
