Guelph’s Community Energy Initiative Update gets green light

Mayor Farbridge wins national award for leadership in sustainability

GUELPH, ON, September 16, 2014 – Mayor Karen Farbridge has been named a member of Canada’s Clean50 for 2015 for leadership at a municipal level that makes city living more sustainable, and further as a member of Canada’s Clean16 for being the most outstanding honouree in the Clean50’s Cities category. The awards are announced annually by Delta Management Group to recognize 50 people from 16 different categories who have “done the most to advance the cause of sustainability and clean capitalism in Canada over the past two years,” said Gavin Pitchford, Chief Talent Officer of Delta Management Group. Guelph delegation travels to Germany to promote economic development, community energy

Report shows Guelph’s energy usage on the decline

Guelph attracts another company in the renewable energy sector

Sustainable Energy Technologies Ltd to manufacture solar inverters in Guelph Sustainable Energy Technologies Ltd (Sustainable Energy) announced that will be locating its main North American solar inverter assembly and test facility in Guelph. Working with Guelph based manufacturer Melitron Corporation, Sustainable Energy will begin production of their solar inverters by the end of 2010. This follows the recent announcement by Canadian Solar Solutions Inc. to establish its solar panel manufacturing facility in the community. Sustainable Energy’s partnership with Melitron will allow for the quick expansion of their production capacity with limited capital investment. Mayor Karen Farbridge will join energy policy makers, industry executives, and leaders from the private and public sectors to discuss communities’ future energy needs as part of a two-day symposium this week. She was invited to participate in the conference, called “Quality Urban Energy Systems of Tomorrow,” based on Guelph’s experience in developing its Community Energy Plan.
