Public waste drop-off hours and fees

The public waste drop-off is open to Guelph residents for garbage, household hazardous waste, yard waste and recyclables.

Recyclables are free to drop-off.

Instead of visiting the drop-off, you can schedule a large item, or extra grey cart pickup by calling 519-767-0598 to schedule and pay for a curbside pickup.

How to load your vehicle

Make it a quick, efficient visit by loading your vehicle in this order:

  1. Waste (household garbage, furniture, appliances etc.)
  2. Recyclables and residential yard waste (metal, cardboard, glass, plastics, electronics, etc.)
  3. Household hazardous waste (fluorescent bulbs, batteries, paint, motor oil, etc.).

Waste drop-off fees

The paper shredder is free to use and recyclables and household hazardous waste are free to drop off. Help keep our staff safe by separating recyclables and hazardous waste from other waste before visiting the drop off. This will help to limit your contact with our staff.

There is a $10 minimum fee for dropping off all items listed below. Credit or debit card payments are preferred, but cash is also accepted.

Shingles (clean, asphalt) $117 per metric tonne
Shingles (asphalt) with mixed construction waste $180 per metric tonne
Wood waste (clean wood) $100 per metric tonne
Yard waste and brush (including holiday trees) $153 per metric tonne
Ministry of Transportation of Ontario Registered Gross Weight measurement $20 per measurement (HST included)
Safety vests (commercial) $12 per vest (HST included)
Scrap Metal, Electronic Waste, Household Hazardous Waste Free

The City does not collect used tires. Please drop off used tires at a registered location.

The scale rounds to the nearest 5 kilograms (kg) and the total fee is rounded to the nearest dollar. Fees subject to change.
