Envida installing district energy pipes for River Mill condos

As part of the Galt District Energy System, Envida Community Energy Inc. will install underground district heating and cooling pipes between the Sleeman Centre, and the River Mill condominiums at the corner of Macdonell and Wellington Streets.

The pipes will run along the east side of Macdonell, through the Macdonell/Wellington intersection and down the south side of Wellington Street. To complete the work as quickly as possible, crews will work at both ends of the project route at the same time.

Property access and parking

Access to area businesses will be maintained and the East and West Parkades will be open. There will be no pedestrian access from Neeve Street Parking Lot to Wellington Street. Please use the Guelph Central Station underpass on Farquhar Street

The City of Guelph appreciates your patience, understanding and co-operation during this important construction project.

District Energy in Guelph

Guelph is the first city in North America to announce and publish a plan for a city-wide thermal energy network—a kind of central heating and cooling system for the entire city. It works a lot like the power grid we use for electricity, and allows multiple buildings to connect and share a central energy supply.

District energy is a big part of the Community Energy Initiative which will help Guelph:

  • use less energy in 25 years than we do today
  • consume less energy per capita than comparable Canadian cities
  • produce less greenhouse gas per capita than the current global average
