The City of Guelph has prepared a 50-year Wastewater Treatment Master Plan which provides direction for wastewater treatment infrastructure planning, investment and implementation to the year 2054. The study included a review of the City’s current wastewater treatment infrastructure and an analysis of alternative solutions to accommodate future wastewater treatment needs.

This study followed Phase 1 and Phase 2 of the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment process for master plans. The recommended Master Plan incorporates comments received from the public and agencies during the course of the study.

Recommendations for treatment capacity expansion beyond the approved 73.3 MLD are not anticipated to be needed until 2024 or slightly beyond. Additional detailed studies and approvals for each of the infrastructure related projects identified will be completed prior to implementing these recommendations. 

This Wastewater Treatment Master Plan will guide the City’s planning for wastewater services and will be reviewed and updated every five years for the duration of the planning period.
