The purpose of the Commercial Policy Review is to update the City’s land use policies that influence the type and location of shopping opportunities throughout the municipality. The existing commercial framework has been in place since 1993. Since that time retailing in Ontario has continued to change in terms of the size and type of stores and the range of uses/services provided in them. In addition the City’s population is expected to continue to grow and the purpose of the Review is to ensure adequate commercial development opportunities are provided in appropriate locations to 2021. On July 25, 2005, Council approved a Staff Report outlining recommendations for changes to the commercial planning approach in the City. This report can be viewed below. A copy of the report can also be obtained from Planning Services. Council also modified Appendix 4 and 5 to the Staff Report. The Council modified Appendixes can also be viewed below.
