Volunteer Opportunities

The City of Guelph offers a wide variety of volunteer opportunities for students, adults and seniors. Get involved in programs, special events or parks programs. Whether you would like to utilize your special skills, explore career choices, meet new people or become a valuable member of a volunteer team, we offer volunteer opportunities, short-term or long-term commitments in a variety of areas throughout the year.

River Run Centre

Volunteers play a front-line role in providing friendly audience services. All volunteers must be at least 16 years old or 18 if they wish to work at the bar. Whether ushering patrons to their seats, taking tickets, selling merchandise, checking coats or tending bar, volunteering at River Run is an exciting way to meet new people while making a significant contribution to our community. For more information contact Bonnie McDougall, Volunteer Co-ordinator at 519-837-5662 ext. 2206 or visit riverrun.ca/volunteer.

Snow Angels

A primary service provided by the Operations Department during the winter season, is to plow snow from City roads and sidewalks. Unfortunately this activity can create a windrow* across the entrances of driveways.

The City of Guelph and the Volunteer Centre of Guelph/Wellington have developed a volunteer based service that is designed to assist seniors and residents with a physical disability to removing their windrow.

Citizen appointments are generally made by City Council in November and June of each year. In order for a citizen to be eligible for appointment they must be a Canadian citizen, over eighteen and either the owner or tenant of land or the spouse of an owner or tenant of land in the municipality as per the eligibility requirements of the Municipal Election Act.
