What is a pollinators park?

It’s a green space park full of beautiful flowers and plants that attract certain insects and birds. Bees, beetles, butterflies and other insects fly through leaves and petals taking pollen from one plant to the next, and pollinating the plants throughout the park.

We rely on pollinators for about 1/3 of our food as many fruits, vegetables, grains and seeds come from flowering plants that need pollinators. A pollinator park will provide a home where these special bugs and birds can fly among flowers, feast on nectar and nest in trees, in shrubs or in the ground.

Studies have shown bee, ladybug, butterfly and moth populations are decreasing, and that decrease is upsetting the balance in our environment. We can help pollinators live and thrive by planting different kinds of native flowers that bloom in the spring, summer and fall. Learn more about pollinators and their role in our environment.
