A special Council meeting took place Monday, October 29, giving Council and community members the opportunity to learn more about the potential organic waste technologies being considered for Guelph.
A number of organic technology providers participated in Monday’s meeting, each giving a 10 minute presentation about its proposed technology. Options presented include rebuilding the composting facility using the same technology (aerobic composting in channels), as well as options for a facility with an alternative, proven technology that would use as much of the City’s existing infrastructure as possible.
“The re-opening of our organics facility will have a significant and lasting impact on our city’s future,” said Mayor Karen Farbridge. “This meeting is an excellent opportunity to find out about the technologies under consideration.”
These presentations are part of the organic processing technology review that is currently underway to identify proven technologies for processing Guelph’s ‘wet’ organic waste. A public steering committee has formed to review the various options for Guelph and to provide input to Council on the type of organic processing technology to be used when the City’s organic processing plant is re-opened.
