Bicycle-Friendly Guelph Initiative

Bikeways on Stone and Gordon - Have Yor Say
The City will build bikeways on Stone Rd and Gordon Street south of Stone in 2010.  Given these roads’ high motor vehicle and cyclist volumes, the project team is considering providing something with more protection for cyclists than the traditional painted bike lane.  Consideration has been given to the European style “cycletracks” and other innovative designs.  Please come and see some of the options and provide your comments at the Public Information Centre on December 1, 5-8PM at the Delta Hotel, 50 Stone Rd West.

Bike Racks on Buses are Here!
All Guelph Transit conventional buses are now equipped with an easy-to-use bike rack on the front of the bus. You can take your bike to school, to work, to the park, virtually anywhere your bike and our buses can take you with our new easy-to-use bike racks. Getting around Guelph by bike and bus has just become much easier Click here for more information on how you can Rack, Ride, ’n’ Roll.

Cyclists are safer when they share the road.
MOST cycling collisions occur when cyclists are biking on sidewalks, and cyclists on sidewalks are at least 4 times more likely to fall or be injured than those on the road.*

If you are not confident sharing high-traffic routes, the Guelph Cycling Map identifies roads with bike lanes, wide pavement or neighbourhood roads and trails to can help you find an alternate route.

Guelph is building more bike lanes.
The Bicycle-Friendly Guelph Initiative is working to identify routes where better bike facilities would make the biggest impact. Many road reconstruction projects underway are also increasing bike lanes in the city.

Bike Racks on Buses!
Guelph Transit hit the road in August outfitted with bike racks on all of their buses.  Now that trip out to Guelph Lake just got a little bit easier!

Getting Guelph to go by bike
Every day, people travel across the city to work, to school, to shop or to visit. Most of those trips are less than five kilometres, but only 1% of those daily trips are on bicycles.

Bicycle-Friendly Guelph Initiative is working to make cycling safer and more convenient. Using a comprehensive and consultative approach, Bicycle-Friendly Guelph hopes to triple the number of daily bike trips in Guelph by 2018.

As Guelph learns to go by bike, the city reduces the greenhouse gas emissions caused by daily driving, and reduces its environmental footprint.
