General Manager Legal, Realty and Risk Services / City Solicitor

Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, the General Manager / City Solicitor leads a staff of 11 and manages a budget of over $1.9 million.  The scope of the General Manager / City Solicitor comprises providing legal counsel to City Council, the Executive Team, boards, agencies and departments and staff on corporate matters involving legal problems or issues; also, oversees the Realty and Risk Services function for the City.  The General Manager / City Solicitor attends and provides legal advice at Council meetings and works closely with the Executive Team to advise on changes in legislation, shared services and Tribunal matters and evaluates the potential impact on the City and participates in developing the organization’s position on such changes.

You are an accomplished legal practitioner and strategic communicator with success as a relationship builder and advisor in a multi-stakeholder environment.  You possess a successful track record in managing and leading a group of professionals and building high performance teams including providing outstanding mentorship and coaching to the team.  You are known as risk aware and enjoy developing innovative approaches to complex issues.

As a consensus builder, you will provide leadership on the City’s legal, realty and risk issues and develop and execute strategies to deliver exceptional service to internal and related clients and best practices in public administration.  In addition, you are comfortable managing numerous concurrent priorities and adept at moving agendas forward.  Experience and expertise in municipal and administrative law would be an asset.
