Development charge rates set in 2024
Municipal development charges are effective March 2, 2024, to March 1, 2025.
Current education development charges are effective May 20, 2022 to May 19, 2024. The school boards are in the process of updating their development charge background studies and bylaws, and the proposed new education development charges are anticipated to be effective April 23, 2024.
Municipal rates are adjusted annually for inflation on the anniversary of the by-laws.
Education rates are adjusted per the rate schedules in the school boards’ bylaws.
Background
The municipal rates were determined through the completion of a Development Charges Background Study. The City’s Development charge bylaws along with the Development Charges Act provide the rules for collecting municipal development charges. The municipal rates below include the mandatory 20 per cent discount from the full calculated rates for ease of use.
The education rates are determined by the local school boards. The Upper Grand District School Board and the Wellington Catholic District School Board development charges webpages provide more information. Municipalities collect education development charges and remit the funds to the school boards.
