Full competition rules

  1. Every entrant must provide his/her first and last name, full address, including postal code, and email address and/or telephone number.
  2. In order to be eligible for this competition, entrants must be 18 years of age or older. Individuals who are members of the City’s council or employees of the City, and those who reside with them, are not eligible to enter.
  3. Entries must be received via email by Sunday, October 8, 2017 at 11:59 p.m.
  4. The City may disqualify any entry that:
    1. Is incomplete, illegible, damaged or irregular;
    2. Was submitted by illicit means; or
    3. Does not conform with or satisfy these rules.
  5. The City may disqualify any designs that:
    1. Breach any applicable law, such as by containing or promoting discrimination on any prohibited ground as set out in the Human Rights Code;
    2. Are commercial in nature or constitute advertising in any way;
    3. Present products prohibited from sale to minors including alcoholic beverages, tobacco or drugs;
    4. Present demeaning or derogatory portrayals of individuals or groups;
    5. Portray or exploit violence, sexuality or graphic or horrific images; or
    6. Are otherwise objectionable.
  6. By submitting an entry, each entrant accepts all provisions of this competition, agrees to abide by all of these rules, and releases and holds harmless the City and its members of council, officers, employees and volunteers from all liability in connection with this competition. This competition is subject to all applicable federal, provincial and municipal laws, regulations and requirements.
  7. The City will not be responsible for any lost, stolen, delayed, damaged, misdirected, late or destroyed entries, or for any typographical, printing, production, distribution, advertising or other errors or omissions with respect to this competition. The City may terminate this competition at any time without notice.
  8. Materials provided to the City as part of an entry will not be returned, however the copyright in such materials will remain the property of the entrant.
  9. The City and Public Art Advisory Committee are not obliged to accept any of the entries, and reserve the right to reissue the Call to Artists, make no selection or cancel the process as required.
  10. Three honoraria and one grand prize are available to be awarded. Each honorarium and the grand prize must be accepted as awarded and each is non-transferrable. If any honorarium or the grand prize is not claimed within ten (10) business days after the selection, it will be forfeited.
  11. The three finalists must each sign a waiver and release, provided by the City, in advance of, and as a condition of, receiving the honorarium.
  12. The City may, without notice or compensation, use the finalists’ names and photographs for publicity purposes.
  13. The City will seek, by way of an Artist Agreement, the right to reproduce the designs submitted by the three finalists to promote this competition, the City’s Public Art Program or the City in general. The City will not use submitted materials for any purpose other than those outlined above.
  14. While copyright of the grand prize winning design will remain with the entrant, this individual must be prepared to grant a license to the City of the right to reproduce the design, with the understanding that modifications may be required to accommodate final application techniques. The grand prize winner must also agree to allow reproduction (including electronic images) for promotional purposes.
  15. The City is collecting personal information about entrants for the purpose of administering this competition. No further informational or marketing communications will be sent to an entrant as a result of entering this competition. Please see the City’s Privacy Policy on the Access to Information page on the City of Guelph website for information on its policies regarding maintaining the privacy and security of personal information.
