Guelph, Ont., March 6, 2017 — The City of Guelph received the 2017 Municipality of the Year Award from Festivals and Events Ontario (FEO) at its annual conference last Friday.
Through this special award, FEO recognizes municipalities, towns and cities that have worked, through concentrated efforts, to openly encourage, support and provide an atmosphere beneficial to successful festivals and events.
Patricia Pizziola and Alexandra Marson, who work in the City’s Recreation Support Services division, accepted the award at a presentation held in Sault Ste. Marie. The City received the award, presented by the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation, in the category of population more than 50,000 and less than 150,000.
“We’re extremely pleased that our team has been recognized for the customer service and support it provides to festival and event organizers in Guelph. This award is a testament to the collaboration of many City departments and the dedication of special event organizers who bring engaging and exciting events to our community,” said Heather Flaherty, general manager of Parks and Recreation.
Submissions from FEO members, which the City is, were received for consideration in fall 2016 and were reviewed by an independent panel of judges. Festivals and events of all kinds from every corner of Ontario were represented in the submissions—from community festivals to internationally recognized events.
