Merrymaking at the Market

Holiday celebration, tree lighting and night market

Guelph, Ont., December 14, 2016 – To celebrate the festive season, the City is hosting a free, family-friendly event in Guelph’s downtown market district on Wednesday, December 21.

Merrymaking at the Market is a seasonal civic celebration in Market Square and a special, last-minute shopping opportunity at the Guelph Farmers’ Market. The fun gets started at 4 p.m.

In Market Square there will be live music and entertainment and a holiday sing-a-long, led by The Overtones barbershop chorus, that will precede the official Christmas tree lighting with Mayor Cam Guthrie at 6:30 p.m. Complimentary hot chocolate will be served and, weather permitting, the Market Square rink will be open for skating.

Around the corner at Gordon and Wilson streets, the Guelph Farmers’ Market will be open until 8 p.m. for its second annual Holiday Night Market. More than 80 vendors will be selling locally sourced foods, unique artisan merchandise, VQA wines and specialty items. The Night Market also features food trucks in the market’s back parking lot.
