Notice of work: City drilling groundwater monitoring wells near water supply well on Emma Street

Map shows locations of monitoring wells being installedBeginning on or around September 26, environmental consultants and contractors hired by the City of Guelph will drill three permanent monitoring wells around the City’s municipal water supply well on Emma Street. The City will use these monitoring wells for ongoing monitoring of groundwater quality and quantity as part of the City’s strategy for source water protection.

Golder Associates Ltd. and their subcontractors will drill the wells on City and private property in the following approximate locations:

  • one monitoring well near the parking lot of the Homewood Health property, on the south side of Emma Street (site E4 on map),
  • one monitoring well in the cul-de-sac of Manhattan Court (site E6 on map),
  • one monitoring well in the rear parking lot of the Parkview Church located at 89 Speedvale Avenue East (site E2 on map)

Drilling of each well will take one to two weeks to complete. Work will be conducted Monday to Friday between the hours of 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. Once drilling is complete, contractors will return to complete the monitoring well installation and take samples from the monitoring wells on a periodic basis.

Traffic impacts

Intermittent lane closures will be required on Emma Street for short durations. One lane will remain open at all times and vehicles should yield to oncoming traffic. A road closure will be required on Manhattan Court between the entrance way to 9 and 11 Manhattan Court during drilling activities.

Property access and parking

Every effort will be made to maintain access to homes and driveways during work hours (8 a.m. to 6 p.m.). Drilling activities and equipment movement may temporarily impact access to private property and delays may be expected. All driveway access should be restored by the end of each working day.
