1080 Southgate Drive is first Guelph site to receive designation from Ontario’s Investment Ready: Certified Site Program

Provincial site certification reduces the hassle for global investors with minimized risk and completed property studies.

Guelph, Ont., September 27 2016 – 1080 Southgate Drive, a 23.47-acre industrial development site in Guelph’s 300-acre Southgate Business Park, has received the Certified Site designation from the Ministry of Economic Development and Growth (MEDG) following completion of the Investment Ready: Certified Site Program. 1080 Southgate Drive is the first Certified Site for Guelph, bringing industry attention and opportunity to the regional market.

Ontario implemented Canada’s first province-wide site certification program to help its markets stay competitive with neighbours south of the border. Designed to streamline the site selection process for prospective investors, the program provides access to comprehensive property information such as environmental, archaeological and heritage assessments; utilities servicing details; site and area mapping; highway access; and proximity to transportation infrastructure.

1080 Southgate Drive will retain its certification for two years, though it is expected to attract investment well before then. The Ministry recently announced new program upgrades that will seek to extend the certification term to four years once a new program agreement is finalized.

Lands in the Southgate Business Park, owned and developed by Industrial Equities Guelph Corporation (IEGC), can accommodate complete design build/sales or lease-back opportunities. “We are confident that companies looking to invest in Guelph will capitalize on our site’s certification, ensuring a smoother transaction and minimized risk during the development phase,” explains Blake Mills, Vice President and Sales Representative at Colliers’ Waterloo Region office, who led the brokerage and municipal teams through the rigorous certification process on behalf of IEGC.
