Provincial land use planning review

The Ontario Ministry of Municipal Affairs is gathering feedback from municipalities, the public, Indigenous communities and other stakeholders on proposed changes to four provincial land use plans:

  • The Growth Plan for the Greater Golden Horseshoe
  • The Greenbelt Plan
  • Oak Ridges Moraine Conservation Plan
  • Niagara Escarpment Plan

The City of Guelph will provide comments to the Ministry on the proposed Growth Plan for the Greater Golden Horseshoe, 2016, the one plan of the four under review that impacts Guelph’s growth management, planning, zoning and development activities.

The City will group its comments using the following eight themes, identified by the Ministry:

  1. Building complete communities
  2. Supporting agriculture
  3. Protecting natural heritage and water
  4. Growing the Greenbelt
  5. Addressing climate change
  6. Integrating infrastructure
  7. Improving plan implementation
  8. Measuring performance, promoting awareness and increasing engagement

Timeline

The deadline for providing feedback to the Ministry is October 31, 2016.

City staff will present comments to Guelph City Council on October 24, 2016 for endorsement prior to submitting them to the Ministry.
