Update: Cause of downtown fire under investigation

Guelph, Ont., May 12, 2016 – Motorists are still being asked to avoid the area between Quebec, Paisley and Norfolk streets. A portion of Yarmouth Street is also closed.

Earlier today, Guelph Fire responded to a fire call at 2 Quebec Street. The call came in at about 9:10 a.m. The fire is now out and the cause is under investigation by City fire officials.

The apartment building was evacuated and residents of the sixth through eighth floors are temporarily displaced. The Canadian Red Cross is on scene assisting these residents.

Two people were transferred to hospital by Guelph-Wellington Emergency Medical Service. Their conditions are unknown.
