City to start contract negotiations with CUPE

Guelph, Ont., January 25, 2016 – Collective bargaining will start between the City and its  two Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Locals, 241 and 973 representing the City’s full- and part-time outside and office employees.

Earlier this evening, Council provided the City’s negotiating team with its collective bargaining mandate that directs staff to negotiate contracts that are fair for City employees whose work we value every day, reasonable and affordable for our citizens and recognizes the City’s capacity to pay, and aligns with settlements of other unionized employee groups.

The City will also negotiate on behalf of CUPE Local 1946 representing the library employees.

The City will continue to provide exceptional programs and services to all citizens during negotiations.

The contracts for 345 outside employees, 232 office employees and 75 library employees expire as of February 1, 2016.

Updates, including negotiation dates, will be posted to guelph.ca/cupe as soon as they become available.
