App empowers persons with disabilities to ride bus

Online application provides step-by-step assistance on the go

Guelph, Ont., December 3, 2015 – Guelph Transit, in collaboration with Magusmode, released an interactive web-based application designed to empower people with cognitive disabilities to ride the bus independently.

The application, designed by Magnusmode, now includes Guelph Transit information presented in five unique card decks:

  • How to buy tickets and passes
  • Riding the bus
  • Riding the bus with your wheelchair
  • How to transfer buses
  • Getting help and having a safe, comfortable ride

“This tool makes it easier for persons with cognitive disabilities to purchase tickets and ride the bus by providing easy to follow instructions,” says Phil Meagher, general manager of Guelph Transit. “This application will also be a good support tool for teaching seniors, children, and newcomers to Canada how to use the transit system.”

Individuals can view the MagnusCards online at magnusmode.com before riding the bus or download the application from the App Store or Google Play to have support throughout the day. Guelph Transit’s card deck is featured under ‘Transportation.’ Information is also available on guelph.ca/magnuscardsapp.
