Guelph, ON, November 4, 2015 – The City of Guelph regrets to announce that Fire Chief Shawn Armstrong will leave the City to join the City of Kingston as Chief, Fire and Rescue Services, effective December 1, 2015.
“It’s always difficult to see someone who is as dedicated as Shawn leave us,” says Guelph’s Chief Administrative Officer Ann Pappert. “This is a great opportunity for Shawn and his family and we wish him well.”
Chief Armstrong joined the City of Guelph in 1995 as Deputy Fire Chief and became the City’s Fire Chief in 1997. In his role as Fire Chief, Shawn has been responsible for Emergency Planning, Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and the operations of the Guelph Fire Department. He has led the City of Guelph to become one of only four organizations in Canada to achieve internationally recognized accreditation status, Certified Fire Service Accreditation, (CRAI) affiliated with International Standards Organization (ISO).
“On behalf of our executive team and City staff, I’d like to thank Shawn for his professionalism to both the corporation and the Guelph community,” Pappert says.
Shawn’s last day with the City of Guelph is November 27, 2015.
