Surrey Street geotechnical and environmental investigation

Beginning Monday, April 13, 2015, engineering consultants and contractors hired by the City of Guelph will be working on Surrey Street between Gordon Street and Wyndham Street.

The City is conducting geotechnical and environmental investigations for infrastructure repair planning, and installing wells and soil vapour probes for ongoing environmental monitoring of the Fountain Street parking lot which was the site of a coal-gassification plant from 1871-1957. Work is being carried out by MTE Consultants Inc. and their subcontractors.

Drilling is expected to occur over a two–day period, with contractors returning to take samples from monitoring wells on a periodic basis. All wells and holes are being drilled on public (City of Guelph) property.

There are no road closures associated with the work. Traffic control measures will be in effect and delays may be expected.
