Update: Victoria Road North to remain closed until June 16

Guelph, ON, June 6, 2014 – Victoria Road North from‎ Goldenview Drive to Conservation Drive will remain closed to motorists, cyclists and pedestrians until Monday, June 16.

Drivers, cyclist and pedestrians are asked to stay out of the area, and follow signed detours.

“If we continue to have good weather, staff will complete repairs and open Victoria Road by Monday, June 16,” said Nello Violin, manager of roads and right of ways. “We recognize the inconvenience this has caused for people and we’re working to have the road open as quickly as possible.”

The City continues to work with the Grand River Conservation Authority to minimize any potential impacts on the nearby wetland.

The Victoria Road collapse occurred Saturday, May 24, and was caused by an opening in the culvert beneath the road. City staff will replace the entire length of the culvert with a new pipe, as the condition of the original culvert is poor.

The City will continue posting updates on guelph.ca/construction, Twitter and Facebook.
