Enter the Guelph Public Library’s teen writing and art contests today!

The Guelph Public Library’s “It’s ALL Write: Teen Short Story Contest” starts March 1 and runs until 5:00 pm on Saturday, April 12. Teens in grades 7 through 12 are encouraged to write a short story on any topic in 1,500 words or less and send it to teens@library.guelph.on.ca. Why not try writing a story which embraces the Guelph Public Library’s annual theme: “Guelph Public Library… your other best friend”? Winners will receive a gift certificate to The Bookshelf in three categories: Grades 7 and 8, Grades 9 and 10 and Grades 11 and 12 and will also have their work turned into a book to be sold in May.

Put your artistic talents to good use and design a book cover for our “It’s ALL Write: Teen Short Story Contest.” The sky’s the limit…Paint, draw, photography, digital arts – you decide! The winning cover will be featured on the Guelph Public Library’s “It’s ALL Write” book to be released in May. Win a fabulous prize package from Wyndham Art. Submit your entry to teens@library.guelph.on.ca or in person to any library branch before 5:00 PM on Saturday, April 12.

Teen Short Story Contest

Guidelines

  • Write a short story (on any topic) in 1,500 words or less. Feel free to embrace this year’s theme “Guelph Public Lbrary…your other best friend”.
  • Contest is open to anyone in grades 7 through 12.
  • All submissions must be unpublished, original, fictional stories.
  • Entries must be emailed to teens@library.guelph.on.ca
  • The library reserves the right to reject any entry it deems inappropriate.

Top prizes

Gift certificates to the Bookshelf awarded in three categories: Grades 7 and 8, grades 9 and 10, and grades 11 and 12.

Winners will be announced in May at the Teen Author event.

How to enter

All entries must be submitted by email to teens@library.guelph.on.ca by 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 12, 2014.

When you email your entry, be sure to include the following information:

  • Full name
  • Full address
  • School name and grade
  • Guardian’s name
  • Entry title and number of words

By entering the Guelph Public Library Teen Short Story Contest, you understand that the judges’ decisions are final. You agree to abide by all rules and regulations contained in the contest guidelines. You hereby release your submission to the Guelph Public Library to reproduce and exhibit. You understand that selected information contained in this form may be released to the media, and that by entering this contest, you understand that your entry will be reproduced for promotional and other purposes.

If your entry does not include all required information, the entry may be eliminated from
the contest.

In submitting your entry, you certify that you are at least 18 years of age or that you are
under 18 years of age and a parent and/or legal guardian has given permission to enter.

Teen Judge a Book by its Cover Contest
