Guelph, ON March 27, 2014 – Funnyman Mike MacDonald is gassing up the comedy-mobile and hitting the highway for the Eleventh Annual Just For Laughs Road Show. This cross-Ontario tour features some of the best stand-up acts from the world-renowned festival of the same name, including Todd Glass, Cristela Alonza and Arthur Simeon. The River Run performance is presented as part of the Guelph Infiniti Comedy Series, and is slated for the Main Stage on Thursday, April 10 at 8 pm.
Fans will no doubt offer a warm welcome for the master of ceremonies, Mike MacDonald, who is now back on his feet following a successful liver transplant. MacDonald is a writer, actor and comedian and is known for his roles as Kurt Murdoch in Mr. Nice Guy, the voice of Rip in The Ripping Friends, and his standout performance on Comedy Night in Canada. He also starred in his own specials entitled Mike MacDonald; On Target, My House! My Rules! and Happy As I Can Be.
Veteran comedian and Philadelphia-native, Todd Glass, has been working in the entertainment industry since the age of 16. Glass has toured with well-known comedians including David Cross, Louis CK, David Spade, Daniel Tosh, Jim Gaffigan, and Sarah Silverman. He has appeared on TV shows such as Louie, The Sarah Silverman Program, Tosh.O, Conan O’Brien, as well as 13 appearances on Jimmy Kimmel Live, in addition to his own half-hour standup special on Comedy Central. Fans of Glass, take note: Guelph is the only stop on the Just For Laughs Road Show at which he will appear.
Texas-native, Cristela Alonzo, recently received a development deal from 20th Century Fox for her own half-hour sitcom based on her life (she also recently made her acting debut on FX’s biker drama, Sons of Anarchy). She has appeared on Conan, Comedy Central’s Live at Gotham and Gabriel Iglesias Presents Stand Up Revolution. Alonzo was also a featured comedian on Showtime Network’s Legally Brown. Cristela has written for Comedy Central and won numerous awards for her short films, including Best Film at the Boston Comedy Festival.
Arthur Simeon – a Torontonian-by-way-of-Kampala, Uganda comedian – brings a funny, rich and authentic African viewpoint to living in North America. A gifted and enchanting storyteller, Arthur recently taped the second season of Just For Laughs’ Funny As Hell series on HBO. He is a favourite on the CBC Radio hit shows Laugh Out Loud and The Debaters and has appeared three times at the Just For Laughs festivals in Montreal.
