Sensational cabaret chanteuse, Patricia O’Callaghan, sings Cohen

Guelph, ON February 7, 2014 – One of Canada’s most accomplished cabaret-style singers, Patricia O’Callaghan, returns to River Run for a solo performance in the Co-operators Hall on Friday, February 21 at 8 p.m. as part of the Borealis Music Series.

Known for her formidable vocal prowess, Patricia has carved a niche for herself as a sensational cabaret chanteuse. Her blend of repertoire is best described as theatrical, ranging from Erik Satie to Kurt Weill, with lots of Leonard Cohen and a sprinkling of Drake in between. She most recently performed at River Run with Colm Wilkinson, as part of a sold out concert this past December.

“On record, O’Callaghan is a delight, setting her classically-trained chops loose on a dizzying blend of cabaret, jazz, and sophisticated pop,” said Chart Attack Magazine of the northern Ontario-born singer. “But it is live that she truly shines, transfixing everyone in her path with her dramatic intensity and sensuality.”

Drawing on her knowledge of French, Spanish and German, O’Callaghan peppers her shows with songs in various languages. She tours with a pianist and double bassist, creating a concert experience that is intimate, eclectic, and powerful. Beyond her solo work, O’Callaghan has collaborated with many of her esteemed peers, including Bryn Terfel, The Gryphon Trio, Steven Page, and jazz clarinetist Don Byron.

O’Callaghan has recorded and released five CDs on the EMI label. She tours throughout North America, Europe and Australia. She also has her own “Live at the Rehearsal Hall” special on Bravo! and has appeared in television shows such as Ken Finkleman’s acclaimed series Foolish Heart.
