Guelph, ON February 4, 2014 – Two of Canada’s critically acclaimed roots musicians, Ken Whiteley and Treasa Levasseur, share the marquee for a concert at River Run Centre on Saturday, February 15, 2014 at 8 p.m. in the Cooperators Hall, as part the Macquarie Music Series.
Ken Whiteley holds a special connection to Guelph, especially Hillside Festival, where his exhilarating Sunday morning gospel hours have drawn capacity audiences year after year. He is widely celebrated as a Canadian roots music legend who generously shares is deep knowledge of blues, gospel and folk styles with an infectious passion. Peterborough Examiner describes him as “a Canadian Pete Seeger with a voice like Tony Bennett cranked to 11”. Ken has been a fixture on the folk and roots scene since the 1960s. He’s played at every major folk festival in Canada and performed and recorded with such legends as Pete Seeger, John Hammond Jr., Tom Paxton, Blind John Davis, Stan Rogers, The Campbell Brothers, Guy Davis, Raffi and countless others. His performances are presented with participatory humor, grace and energy.
Juno-nominated Treasa Levasseur has been called a musical shape shifter and is known as a versatile performer who is equally at home playing jazz, blues, folk, funk, soul, pop or rhythm and blues. She blends old school R&B grooves with a songwriting ethic that comes from years of playing. Her smart and soulful brand of music has made her a hot name in the folk, roots, blues and jazz scenes. Treasa has been compared to Laura Nyro, Bonnie Raitt, Carole King and Marcia Ball. She’s an in-demand artist on the festival scene, having played Toronto Jazz, Calgary Blues, Mariposa Folk & Wreckhouse Jazz & Blues.
Tickets for this double bill performance are $34 for adults, $32 for students and seniors and $20 for youth. $5 eyeGO tickets are available for high school students with valid ID. $20 uGO tickets are available to university and college students with valid ID.
