Guelph, ON, February 19, 2014 – Over the last week, the City has responded to about 40 calls from customers with frozen water services . As cold weather continues, more customers may be affected.
“We’re working to minimize this disruption, support the people affected, and resolve the matter as quickly as possible,” said Peter Busatto, general manager of the City’s Water Services department.
Guelph’s Water Services department is investigating reported frozen service calls, and thawing service lines or installing temporary water services where possible.
In some cases, frozen water lines may take until mid-April to thaw and resolve. The City is working with all affected households and businesses to ensure continued access to water during the disruption.
Extreme cold has led to deeper than average winter frost depth resulting in some water service lines freezing and disrupting regular water service. Frozen water services were last an issue in 1993 when approximately 300 households were affected.
