River Run and Hillside Inside team up to offer free street dance workshop

Guelph, ON, January 27, 2014 – River Run and Hillside Inside co-present a free street dance workshop by Gadfly Street Dance Company on Sunday, February 9, 2014, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Co-operators Hall at River Run Centre.

The 90-minute workshop, led by Ofilio Portillo and Apolonia Velasquez, artistic directors of Gadfly Street Dance Company and renowned masters of urban dance culture, offers participants a chance to learn the basics of hip hop, B-boying, House dance and more.

Gadfly most recently performed in Guelph at Market Square this past September as part of Culture Days. “We’re excited to have the company back for a hands-on workshop. It’s a great opportunity to learn some new street dance moves in an informal setting,” says Ella Pauls, Manager of Cultural Development.

“We’re pleased to welcome Gadfly as part of Hillside Inside. This high-energy urban dance company will encourage spontaneity and innovation in Guelph’s music and dance community.  Our ongoing partnership with River Run’s ONTARIO DANCES program allows us to build synergy among the arts that incites people to use their bodies as instruments of art”, says Hillside Festival Executive Director Marie Zimmerman.

Admission is free and on a first come, first served basis. All ages are welcome. No dance experience is necessary. Participants are asked to wear comfortable clothing,

The workshop is presented with the support of Ontario Dances, an initiative of Ontario Arts Council that seeks to have more live dance performances in Ontario communities and more people engaged, interested and invested in dance.
