Guelph, ON, October 11, 2013 - Respected jazz group The Jason Raso Quartet will join forces with vocalist Joni NehRita for a special performance at Guelph’s River Run Centre on Friday, October 25 at 8pm. The concert takes place in the Co-operators Hall, the perfect venue for the fusion of these locally rooted acts, who meld soul sounds, smooth jazz, and funky rhythms.
The Jason Raso Quartet features its namesake player on bass, Brent Rowan on saxophones, Tom Hammerton on piano and keyboards, and Adam Bowman on drums. Each member of the quartet boasts an impressive artistic resume. Raso’s career spans 20 years. He was a 2010 Hartke Canadian Artist Search Winner, and has composed for television and radio. Rowan is a multi-instrumentalist, director, composer and educator, who writes and arranges for the Guelph Youth Jazz Ensemble. Hammerton’s keyboard work has taken him around the globe. Percussionist Bowman has kept the beat at live performances across North America, the US and the UK, and is accompanist for contemporary dance company “Dancetheatre David Earle”.
For her part, NehRita is an accomplished soul singer, whose sound continues to win her new fans. The singer, songwriter, musician and teacher’s music blends classic soul with a modern sensibility, infusing jazz and pop elements to create a fresh, new sound. Her writing harkens back to a time when acts like Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye were classified as ‘pop’ music acts. She describes her music as having its head in jazz, its personality in pop, and its heart in pure soul.
This performance is the perfect chance to enjoy an evening of exceptional musicianship, and support the rising careers of several Guelph area artists. Tickets are $26 for adults and $24 for students and seniors. $5 eyeGO tickets are available for high school students with valid ID. $20 uGO tickets are available to university and college students with valid ID. Tickets are available at the River Run Box Office at 519-763-3000, or online at riverrun.ca
