City reissues notice of commencement for Niska Road improvements

Guelph, ON, October 17, 2013 – The City has reissued the Notice of Commencement for the Niska Road improvements project.

Earlier this year, the City initiated a Class Environmental Assessment (EA) study to investigate opportunities for improvements to Niska Road from the City limits to Ptarmigan Drive. After receiving input from the community through initial public consultations and examining the corridor challenges, the City decided to elevate the level of Class EA to a Schedule C Project and extend the study area from Ptarmigan Drive to Downey Road.

As part of the study process, members of the public are invited to participate in a Community Working Group.

“Members of the working group will have an opportunity to participate in discussions regarding all aspects of this project, including, but not limited to, the natural environment, community safety, community heritage, transportation and traffic, financial implications, as well as the impacts and mitigation measures of alternative solutions and their design concepts”, explained Don Kudo, interim general manager of Engineering Services. “Individuals who are interested in participating as part of the working group are encouraged to contact the project team before November 1.”

In addition to the activities of the working group, two Public Information Centres (PICs) will be held. The PICs are expected to be held in January and May 2014, and will be an opportunity for the general public, local residents, and interested parties to provide feedback on the project. Exact meeting dates and details will be advertised and posted on City’s webpage.
