Guelph, ON, July 11, 2013 – After re-tendering the project earlier this month, the City has received an on-budget proposal to complete much-needed renovations at the Guelph Farmers’ Market building.
“The renovations we’re doing now are necessary to improve accessibility and continue operating the Farmers’ Market in the current building for at least another five years,” said Colleen Clack, interim executive director of Community and Social Services. “Keeping the current facility in good repair helps ensure it can accommodate any future use as, years from now, the community will be invited to help find a new location for the Farmers’ Market downtown.”
The City is working to finalize the contract by early next week. Once a purchase order has been issued, staff will meet with the successful bidder to confirm project start date and schedule. The City will continue updating the community as the project moves ahead.
Meanwhile, work continues at 2 Gordon Street to prepare the building for renovation including wall sand-blasting and masonry repairs and demolition of some internal fixtures.
