Ontario’s international trade team tours Guelph

GUELPH, ON, June 27, 2013 – Yesterday Guelph hosted 28 representatives from the Ontario Ministry of Economic Development, Trade and Employment. Stationed in China, England, France, Germany, India, Japan, Mexico and the United States of America these economic development officers work to build business relationships between the province of Ontario and foreign investors.

The purpose of yesterday’s visit was to familiarize the team with Guelph’s economy and its capacity for international investment.  The theme of the day was Guelph’s collaborative business environment and global competitiveness in the areas of research and product development.

The packed agenda included tours of the growing downtown core, available employment lands, the University of Guelph’s Bio Product Discovery and Development Centre as well as targeted key local employers.

Thank you to the partnership and participation of the University of Guelph, Guelph Chamber of Commerce, Ontario Bio Auto Council, Innovation Guelph, Workforce Planning Board, Bio Product Discovery and Development Centre, Linamar Corporation, Canadian Solar Incorporated and of course, the Ministry of Economic Development, Trade and Employment in making this day a great success.

The tour resulted in commitments by the City and Ministry of Economic Development Trade,  and Employment to jointly work on potential incoming and outgoing trade missions which may benefit Guelph’s current businesses and attract new foreign investment to the community.

The City of Guelph prides itself on developing these types of partnerships and collaborating with other business organizations in its pursuit of making a global difference.
