GUELPH, ON, April 12 – As a result of an ongoing power outage in Guelph, the City has temporarily closed River Run Centre.
The closure of River Run Centre affects hundreds of dancers competing at the regional Rhythm Dance competition scheduled for today and tomorrow.
“For the safety of our patrons, we have closed the building. Once power has been restored, the competition schedule will resume,” says Colleen Clack, general manager of Culture and Tourism.
Not affected by the power outage are the City’s recreation centres—West End Community Centre, Centennial Pool, Sleeman Centre, Exhibition Arena, Evergreen Seniors Community Centre, and Victoria Road Recreation Centre.
Public Works crews remain out in full force this morning attending to downed trees, icy roads and street lights.
Residents are asked to avoid walking through parks and naturalized areas today and throughout the weekend due to risk of falling ice and debris.
The Guelph Fire Department is also reminding people to stay away from fast-flowing rivers and streams.
