GUELPH, ON, January 29, 2013 – This Sunday, Guelph Transit will replace 15-minute service with 20-minute service during morning and afternoon peak periods. Off-peak service will continue to be provided every 30 minutes.
Altering the peak service model from 15- to 20-minute frequency is part of the City’s effort to provide improved, on-time service to Transit passengers.
“Customer service is a priority for Guelph Transit. We recognized the current schedule was not fully serving the needs and expectations of the community and recommended the service frequency change for this reason,” says Michael Anders, general manager, Community Connectivity and Transit at Guelph Transit, adding, “We continue to welcome feedback from our Transit operators and passengers as we move forward with these service changes.”
In January 2012, as part of Guelph’s Transit Growth Strategy, new routes and a 15-minute peak service frequency model were introduced. However, Transit operators and passengers raised concerns about the new system, including missed transfers at the Guelph Central Station. A field study, done last September, also provided insight into Transit’s service performance barriers.
Using this information, along with feedback from the public and Transit operators, staff recommended the new 20-minute peak service option to City Council. The change was approved December 17.
Along with the new 20-minute service frequency, Route 20 Northwest Industrial will begin providing service during all peak- and off-peak service hours on February 3. In addition, some bus routes will be altered in an effort to improve overall efficiency citywide and support seamless connections throughout the day.
