Fire at 17 Clive Avenue

GUELPH,ON.     On Nov 17, 2012 at approximately 07:18:00 hours the Guelph Fire Department responded to a reported house fire at the noted location.

Units from Headquarters, stations 2 and 5 arrived at the scene and found heavy smoke showing from a residential structure with a report of the person still inside.

Fire crews entering the residence and conducted a primary search encountered heavy smoke and fire. The fire was located in the basement and quickly extinguished. An elderly victim was found and removed from the structure. His name is being withheld pending positive identification.

There were no injuries to fire fighting personnel.

The cause of the fire, estimate of damage and the victim’s information will be released at a later date pending the investigation by the Guelph Fire Prevention and Guelph Police Services.

The Ontario Fire Marshall’s Office is also examining the scene due to loss of life.
