Tree Donation Program will help ’green’ Guelph

Initiative supports the local urban forest

GUELPH, ON, January 4, 2012 – The City of Guelph has launched its Greening Guelph Tree Donation Program. Greening Guelph is a donation program designed to help increase the green canopy in Guelph.

The program gives residents the opportunity to make a donation towards planting a new tree in Guelph, and can be made in someone’s name, honour or as a gift of memoriam. The program will complement existing plantings through the City’s annual plan, as well as other community initiatives.

The scope and condition of a community’s trees is usually the first impression a community projects to its visitors, and an extension of its pride and community spirit.

Studies have shown that trees enhance a community’s economic stability by attracting businesses and tourists. People linger and shop longer along tree-lined streets, and apartments and offices in wooded areas rent more quickly and have higher occupancy rates.

Monetary donations can include a one-time or recurring monetary donation in any denomination greater than $10, donations in kind or commemorative purchases. Donations can be made online or by mail.
